subject: The Oranje Nassau, built 1910. From April 1910 to 1917 in the Vlissingen - Queenborough and Folkestone ferry service. After WW1 from 1919 to 1939 in service to Folkestone and Harwich. During the 2nd World War, the ship stayed in England. In 1947 back in service from Hook of Holland - Harwich

Johannes Mattheus Graadt van Roggen was born in Amsterdam on 28 May 1867 and died in Alkmaar on 26 August 1959.
Educated from the age of 12 at the Minerva Academy in Groningen, then at the Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunst in Amsterdam from 1884 - 1889.
Pupil of August Allebé, R. Stang and B. Wijnveld.
Member of Arti et Amicitiae, St Lucas and The Graphic.
Painter, graphic artist, watercolourist and draughtsman of landscapes, townscapes, still lifes and portraits. Related to the Bergen School.
