Willem de Zwart is a Dutch artist, etcher, watercolourist and draughtsman.
De Zwart lived and worked in The Hague until 1894 and in Amsterdam from 1900 to 1905. Willem de Zwart's work shows a wide range of subjects: landscapes, cityscapes, portraits and still lifes, rendered in a naturalistic-impressionist style. He stood out within the Hague School for his exuberant use of colour.
His work shows kinship with Amsterdam Impressionism, which focuses on people and cities. In his choice of subjects, Willem de Zwart belonged to The Hague School, in his style and use of colour to the Amsterdam Impressionists. He has therefore been called the 'Hague Breitner'.
